Cardiff is located in southern Wales, along the Bristol Channel. It is the Capital and largest city in Wales with a population of over 300,000 people.

Cardiff plays a central role in Welsh business, commerce, culture, education, entertainment, sports, tourism and transportation.

Cardiff has a strong retail industry located at its centre. Major shopping areas include St. David's Centre which is connected to Queens Arcade, and Capitol Centre, which all combine to have more than 100 total stores. Additionally, new constructed St. David Centre 2 expands the city’s shopping area with more stores. The Cardiff Market is a multi-story indoor market located at the city centre.

Cardiff is the Welsh financial capital and has numerous companies operating in its city centre. Some notable companies include Legal & General, Admiral Insurance, HBOS, Zurich, ING Direct, The AA, Principality Building Society. Other large firms include 118118, British Gas, Brains, SWALEC Energy and BT. Many of these companies among others operate from the 80 meter tall Capital Tower, the tallest building in Wales.

Cardiff is home to major television broadcasters of BBC Wales (largest centre outside London), S4C and ITV Wales and West. Cardiff publishes several newspapers and tabloids including South Wales Echo, Western Mail, Metro edition of Cardiff, Gair Rhydd (a university newspaper).

Being the centre of many activities in Wales, Cardiff has developed an advanced transportation network. Cardiff International Airport serves about 2 million passengers a year and is the main international airport in the country. Cardiff Central Railway Station is the biggest station in the country with connections to major destinations all over the United Kingdom, including London and Glasgow. Valleys & Cardiff Local Routes provide local rail service in Cardiff and the surrounding area. Cardiff Bus provides bus services in the city and is based in Cardiff Central Bus Station.

Cardiff is home to large higher education schools that serve more than 20,000 students each such as Cardiff University and University of Wales Institute, and University of Glamorgan, which serves over 10,000 students. The smaller Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is a conservatory serving a few hundred students.

Cardiff has several professional sports teams. The most notable club is Cardiff City F.C. which competes in the Football League Championship(the second tier of English Football)and plays at Ninian Park, a 21,500 capacity stadium.

The Cardiff Blues are a professional Rugby team based in Cardiff Arms Park. Other teams include Cardiff Devils(Hockey) and Cardiff Celts(Basketball.)

Cardiff is home to the Millennium Stadium, the national Welsh stadium which has a capacity for about 75,000 spectators. The venue hosts multiple events ranging from national Rugby and Football matches to racing and concerts.

Cardiff is an attractive destination for tourism, bringing in more than 10 million people a year. The city is home to many cultural points of interests. Some top attractions include St Fagans National History Museum, Wales Millennium Centre(performing arts), and Cardiff Castle.
